BY NATALIE KNOTH 68 boutiquedesign.com JUNE 2014 THE NANDO'S Flame-Grilled Chicken restaurant chain is known for boldly designed locales, and its new flagship for Canada is no exception. Located in a building in downtown Toronto that first opened in 1925 as an auto showroom, designers from Oak Park, Ill.-based Aria Group created an environment for the fast-casual concept that contrasts textural and natural materials, such as reclaimed wood, metal and leather, against vivid pops of color and original artwork from South Africa. That approach includes a beaded booth "cage" in the main dining room that consists of blackened steel rods bearing brightly colored wooden beads that were hand-strung by artist Paul Punke.
