Don't tell guests what to think. That's the one thread that links the wildly

diverse styles of the six Signature Suites that were recently created within the
321-room Loews Regency. Guests can choose from a self-serve menu of lifestyles, from
the glamour of Marilyn Monroe to the residential feel of a tony New York apartment.
"Guests will find their own narrative even if you make one for them," says
Lauren Rottet, founding principal and president, Rottet Studio, Houston, New York
and Los Angeles, the designer responsible for the two Monroe-inspired suites: The
Pop Art Suite and the Glamour Suite. (The other suites include Nate Berkus' eponymous Nate Berkus Apartment, Meyer Davis Studio Inc.'s Uptown Bohemian and
Bespoke Suites and Haynes-Roberts Inc.'s 1970s Italian-inspired suite).
Whatever the story, the outline had to reflect the way guests live now. Relying
on sheer extravagance-in the number of details or the opulence of the spaces-
doesn't speak to the style of many of today's consumers, especially younger ones.
Part of Loews Hotels & Resorts chairman Jonathan Tisch's mandate to the
designers was to put on the brakes. "His suggestion was nearly always to simplify
the design," says designer Berkus of Nate Berkus Associates.
So, Berkus blended vintage accents, sand-blasted oak floors and a carefully
curated art collection to evoke a room built over time. He undercut rigid notions
of luxury by introducing items from his collection sold at Target.
For Rottet, design discipline meant channeling two divergent essences of
Monroe, one of Hollywood's most elusive icons. Here, color becomes the key to fashioning a highly individual experience. Purples and greens offer a more muted take on
Warhol's landmark portrait of the actress in the Pop Art suite, while a pink leather
headboard in the Glamour Suite evokes Monroe's quintessentially feminine vibe.
