BDNy review:
OFF THe CHarTS
The laTesT Boutique Design New York (BDNY) was
a booming affair, reflecting the super-charged state of
the industry it serves. The fifth annual edition of the
trade fair for design professionals in the hospitality
field, held Nov. 9-10 at the Javits Convention Center in
New York, drew more than 5,000 attendees, a 21
percent increase over a year earlier. In addition, the
show's 66,000 sq. ft. of exhibit space sold out two
months prior to the event.
"The response to the BDNY concept has been
phenomenal," says Michelle Finn, president of Hospitality Media Group (HMG), which produces BDNY, the
co-located International Hotel, Motel + Restaurant
Show (IHMRS) and BDNY's sister trade fair, BDwest.
"The creative caliber of products displayed, the depth
and breadth of the conference program, the perennial
wealth of inspiration that is New York City-it's a blend
of experiences that resonates with the hospitality design
community. That it coincides with the Gold Key Awards
for Excellence in Hospitality Design is icing on the cake."
Highlights of the event included six Designed
Spaces created by leading hospitality design firms
using exhibitor/sponsor products; a conference
program with 25 sessions-10 of which were AIA and
IDCEC accredited-and more than 90 speakers; and
social events including the BDNY Opening Reception
held at New York's Vermilion restaurant and bar and
the 34th Gold Key Awards Gala held at the Mandarin
Oriental, New York.
BDNY returns to the Javits Center Nov. 8-9, 2015.

night before the show at Vermilion, with the ISHP Annual
Fundraiser followed by the BDNY Opening Reception,
whose attendees included (left to right) Kajsa Krause and

Women in Lodging; 6 Wilson, third from left, then took
part in a panel discussion with Michelle Lee, Hilton
Worldwide; Leslie Temples, L Temples and Co.; Deborah
Herman, Fabric Innovations; Meg Prendergast, The Gettys
Group; Glenn Wilson, Marriott Intl.; and Stacey Greene,
Chesapeake Lodging Trust; 7 the Gold Key Awards gala at
the Mandarin Oriental was a sold-out affair.
