BY MAT THEW HALL 124 boutiquedesign.com APRIL 2015 STOREAGE AMSTERDAM'S design of the new Le Baron nightclub in Shanghai oozes sex appeal. The 3,900-sq.-ft. satellite branch of the Parisian party destination is studded with such features as diamond-shaped infinity mirrors inspired by old-time peep shows and red, bordello-style lighting. Also playing a big visual role in the space is a pattern based on a sketch that club co-founder André Saraiva made on the back of a napkin during his first trip to the site. Designers took that drawing-a racy mélange of eyes, dollar signs and female genitalia-and turned it into a repeating theme that's been liberally applied to the club's flooring and wallcoverings. The result: "An overall vibe that's part Montparnasse house party and part brothel," says Storeage managing director Leendert Tange. COLIN JONE S RED-HOT REFLECTIONShttp://www.boutiquedesign.com
