HOTEL RL LAUNCHES IN BALTIMORE
Though it mainly operates hotels in the Western U.S., Red Lion Hotels Corp.
(RLHC) has chosen to debut its Hotel RL brand in Baltimore's Inner Harbor.
All aspects of the brand, which the company first unveiled a year ago, were
conceived by PULSE by Gettys, a recently formed unit of The Gettys Group
design firm. Located in downtown Baltimore, the 130-key flagship Hotel RL is
an adaptive reuse of the former Keyser Building, a historic 10-story property
with a cut-stone façade.
"Hotel RL is an urban lifestyle brand that will offer visitors a uniquely local experience, and Baltimore is the perfect place to unveil this concept," says Greg Mount,
president and ceo of Spokane, Wash.-based RLHC. "We emphasized comfortable,
communal spaces and advanced technological touches which will appeal to travelers with a millennial mindset; those who are addicted to their devices."
The hotel's pavilion-style lobby serves as a casual, central meeting space
and houses The Steps, a seating/gathering space inspired by a Pacific Northwest coffee house. The lobby also features a bar and grill. Instead of a typical
hotel front desk, Hotel RL offers a mobile app, which allows guests to choose
their specific room, check-in and download an electronic key. (Physical room
keys are available at a kiosk in the lobby.)
Guest rooms incorporate plush seating, hard work surfaces and hardwood
floors throughout. Instead of standard closets, the rooms incorporate a retailinspired changing area.

"The new Hotel RL concept is geared to meet the changing needs of today's
traveler with innovative spaces that are not only functional but also encourage
interaction and communal gathering," says Jackson Thilenius, senior design
director for PULSE by Gettys. "Our design focused on how we could evoke a
sense of community and social connection while also meeting the workspace
needs of hotel guests."
