STUDY HOTEL'S
PENTHOUSE GETS
MAJOR UPGRADE

A run-of-the-mill meeting/event
space on the top floor of The
Study at Yale hotel in New Haven,
Connecticut, has been reborn
as the resplendent "Penthouse,"
a private lounge/dining venue.
Overseeing that makeover was
Cameron Schwabenton, designer
and chief at Charleston, South
Carolina-based Cameron Stewart
Ltd. Co., who outfitted the 1,200sq.-ft. space with custom and
mid-century modern furniture,
a bronze-clad bar and works by
students in Yale's master of fine arts program.
"We also increased the space's functionality by installing a custom walnut
bookcase that houses a video screen for presentations behind a set of sliding
doors clad in upholstered cotton, and installed custom drop-leaf walnut tables
suitable for dining and cocktail events," says Schwabenton, who had worked
previously with Paul McGowan, the hotel's owner/developer, on another
boutique property in her hometown of Charleston. (Prior to launching The
Study brand, McGowan was senior vice president, design and construction, for
Starwood Hotels & Resorts' W Hotels brand.)
The Penthouse space, Schwabenton says, "is now fresh and modern, in
keeping with the hotel's overall ambience, while also expressing the historic
and artistic sentiment of the storied university it overlooks."
CORRECTION:
The profile of the Four Seasons Dubai at Jumeirah Beach, winner of the Best Resort
in the 2015 Gold Key Awards for Excellence in Hospitality Design that appeared on
pages 62-63 of the December 2015 issue, should have credited Tihany Design for the
property's Sea Fu and Suq restaurants, Mercury Lounge and presidential suite. This
correction has been made in the digital edition of the December issue.
