my mother was a feminist and did not make any difference in the education of
her sons and daughters.
When I started in the hospitality industry, there were not many female executives. When women were given high positions, there was a discrepancy in how
we were viewed and treated. For example, as a woman, you had to work twice as
hard and better to be considered equal to your male peers. This adversity led me
to co-create and lead the Women at AccorHotels Generation group, an internal
diversity network that empowers women in the workplace. I am still very motivated in supporting women in their careers and have probably promoted approximately 95 percent of all the female Sofitel GMs in the network.
In addition, most recently, AccorHotels joined HeForShe, the solidarity
movement initiated by UN Women, and we pledged to achieve gender parity in
management and equal pay and to sensitize and motivate male employees in
favor of gender diversity.
You seem to know eVeRYBoDY in the inDustRY. how DiD You BuilD
YouR social netwoRk, anD what aRe the Benefits of that?

I don't know everybody, but I do know many, many people, that's for sure. It's part

of our responsibility to be involved in many networks and in the local communities. I've been very involved in the professional networks in the Indian Ocean
region and in the West Indies and the Bahamas. These days, I do find it a bit more
difficult to be active in professional networks, as I am traveling much more.
how much aRe You on the RoaD in a tYpical YeaR, anD whY?

I spend from 60 to 70 percent of my time traveling on business. It's part of my job to
create strategies that are aligned with the reality of our network and to meet our
employees, managers, partners, etc., and to do that, I have to be on-site. Thankfully,
the phone and internet allow me to stay connected, no matter what.
as a fRequent hotel guest, what Do You View as "must-haVes" foR
a satisfYing staY?

Connectivity is important, both technological and human. Beyond that are design
style, cleanliness and security-the latter is even more of a challenge, in light of
today's global realities. But perhaps of paramount importance is true attention to
the guest during their stay. Sofitel, for example, embodies a cousu main (tailor
made) approach, meaning service from the heart, not just the mind. 
