LIFE SCIENCES FUTURE
UNITES INDUSTRY LEADERS TO
ADVANCE LIFE SCIENCES IN PA
Life Sciences Pennsylvania's annual conference, Life Sciences Future - now hosted as
two events to accommodate LSPA's growing and diversifying membership - reflects
the life sciences community's ongoing commitment to innovation in health and medical
technologies and scientific advancements in the Mid-Atlantic. At Life Sciences Future -
MedTech we learned and connected on the latest industry research and trends within the
medical device, diagnostic, and digital health industries (see page 2 for a recap of this
year's event), while Life Sciences Future - BioPharm will be focused on timely topics in
the biotechnology and pharmaceutical fields.
At the upcoming Life Sciences Future - BioPharm conference, hear from Seth Joyner,
former NFL linebacker for the Philadelphia Eagles and breast cancer patient advocate,
and David Fajgenbaum, M.D., M.B.A., M.Sc., physician, Castleman disease patient and
author of the recently published memoir: Chasing My Cure: A Doctor's Race to Turn
Hope into Action. During the Patient Spotlight, meet Eli and Ella Vivian, Metachromatic
Leukodystrophy (MLD) gene therapy patients, who were the 10th and 11th children in
the world to undergo gene therapy for their rare disease. Additionally, hear "America's
Got Talent" semi-finalist Christian Guardino's inspiring story during the closing plenary.
Christian was born with a rare inherited genetic blindness. He gained his vision after
receiving LUXTURNA, the first FDA-approved gene therapy, developed by researchers at
the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and Spark Therapeutics.
To gain insight on biotechnology and pharmaceuticals, guests can attend Knowledge
Bursts about cell & gene therapy in Pennsylvania with James M. Wilson, Ph.D., increasing
success through genetics with Carolyn Buser-Doepner, deal-making trends with Jon
Civitarese, and regulation of medical cannabis with John Collins, M.B.A., R.T.(R)(T), C.N.M.T.
Attendees will also have opportunities to network and learn about new technologies and
data and meet companies pitching their business plans for potential investments and
partnerships.
LSPA looks forward to hosting Life Sciences Future - BioPharm October 3 and bringing
together industry leaders to learn from and inspire each other to ultimately advance the
life sciences in PA. Follow along on social media using the hashtag #LSFBioPharm.
