Cahilty Hotel & Suites lays out the red
carpet for all visiting ski clubs and councils.
Their Guest Services staff welcomes their visitors by providing extraordinary service. The
Far West Mini Ski Week was held at Cahilty
Hotel & Suites and Sun Peaks this past
March. Nancy Ellis, FWSA VP of North
American Travel, reported on their group
stay: "John Douglas makes sure that everyone
staying at the hotel has a wonderful experience.
He made our Mini Trip group feel welcome at the
resort, gave us lots of helpful information about
things we could do during our stay, and assisted
us with our Welcome Party. It was a treat to see
him wearing an apron serving his famous chili
dogs at the weekly complimentary Thursday
lunch for hotel guests and filling the popcorn bowl
on movie night".
No matter the size of the club, John
warmly welcomes everyone to Cahilty Hotel
& Suites, to enjoy the town of Sun Peaks, and
play in his backyard. He wants every guest to
experience the uniqueness that only Sun
Peaks can provide. John and his wife Joanne
live in Sun Peaks, along with just under 700
other year-round residents, including Mayor,
Al Raine and his wife, Nancy Greene.
Nancy Greene's Cahilty Hotel & Suites
has been a participant in the Far West Silent
Auction and Travel Expo for the past nine
years, and a sponsor of either the Delegate
Neck Wallets or Tote Bags for the past seven,
providing Far West with $12,000 in cash
sponsorship.
John's continued work on behalf of clubs
and councils and the support of Far West Ski
Association fully embodies the spirit of the
Bill Mackey Award. He is most deserving of
the 2017 Bill Mackey Award. ss

The Councils' Man & Woman
of the Year Program Recognizes
Top Club Volunteers!
by Gene Fulkerson
Councils' Man and Woman of the Year Chair, FWSA

Mark Barnard, Intermountain Ski
Council, and Jane Gutierrez, Los Angeles
Council of Ski Clubs, were named the FWSA
Councils' Man and Woman of the Year at the
Annual Convention in Boise, Idaho on Saturday, June 10, 2017. There were nine outstanding
honorees.
We appreciate Big White Ski Resort for
their continuing support and sponsorship of
the FWSA Councils' Man and Woman of the
Year program since 2001. Our winners were
awarded a 2018 ski vacation for two at Big
White's ski-in/ski-out resort, which includes
five nights lodging, lift tickets and equipment rentals.
Scoring and judging was handled electronically again this year. Thank you judges
for scoring the submissions prior to the Convention, spending all Saturday morning in the
interview process and sharing your experiences with the process. Judges were: Paul
Vlasveld, Lisa Hunter, Carlene Boutacoff, Dave
Felker, Colleen Stroeder and Barbara Blase.
Thanks also goes to my tabulation partner,
George Kish, and my personal secretary,
Catherine Ohl.
We are pleased to introduce the following
outstanding 2017 Councils' Men and Women
of the Year Honorees. The following excerpts
from their resumes, covering five years of contributions to skiing, will give insight to their
exceptional contributions to snowsports.

Brad Wilson, General Manager of the Bogus Basin Mountain
Recreation Area, a Silver Sponsor of the 2017 FWSA Convention,
welcomed everyone to Boise, Idaho, at the Fountain Party. Brad
is a Past Recipient of the FWSA Bill Mackey Award (1994).
With Brad is Susan Saad, Director of Community and
Customer Relations at Bogus Basin.

Bay Area Snow Sports Council
David Baird has been skiing for over 50
years and has been a member of Inskiers for
the past 15 years. David served as his club's
president for three years and loves to cook
meals for his fellow skiers at their club cabin.
Kat Severin has been skiing for 20 years
and has been a member of Rusty Bindings for
the past seven years. Kat was the 2015 FWSA
Safety Person of the Year recipient. She developed a YouTube video to educate skiers and
riders about protecting their eyes from the
sun's UV rays.

Intermountain Ski Council
Mark Barnard is rather new to skiing
and is a member of Bogus Basin Ski Club. In a
very short time, Mark has had a considerable
positive impact on his club's fund raising revenue. In addition, Mark was the event leader
for "A Day on the Mountain" at Bogus Basin
Mountain Recreation Area for the Convention..
Carol Peterson has been skiing for 20
years and has been a member of Bogus Basin
Ski Club for the past five years. Carol has been
her club's Communications Director since
2014. In that time, she has completely reformatted and edited her club's newsletter. She
also maintains her club's website, sends email
blasts and designs point-of-sale material for
her club.

Attendees at Friday's Fountain Party were entertained by the
Oinkari Basque Dancers of Boise. The dance group retains a
traditional repertory of social, performance, and ritual dances
from Bizkaia, Gipuzkoa, and other provinces in Europe.
After their dance program, they invited party-goers to join
them. And, so we did!
