The Los Angeles Council of
Ski Clubs, Inc. has 24 snowsports
(skiing, boarding, and social) clubs
that cover Los Angeles County.
LAC is one of the largest of the
10 councils of the Far West Ski
Association in number of clubs.
LAC is also a member of the National
Ski Council Federation
(NSCF).
There are many, many very
active, very enthusiastic members
in these clubs. Summer finds
many of the clubs out hiking, biking,
kayaking, sailing, and up to
Mammoth Mountain for their
summer programs. Winter sets
the mood for wonderful snow
covered mountains, with trails
that twist and turn, and those
that head straight down the
slope! California and our western
states ski resorts have some
of the best winter snow that can
be imagined, providing all our
clubs with opportunities for great
skiing. The diversity of the LAC
clubs, small/large, winter/summer
sports programs, and the
blending of some of the clubs together
for better pricing on their
trips, provide numerous different
events to do. More People =
More Fun!

Angeles Council of Ski Clubs are
active throughout the year. Check

Of course, Mammoth Mountain
Ski Resort, is the best " local "
ski mountain - a mere five-hour
drive from central Los Angeles.
Mammoth offers a myriad of
year-round outdoor activities
-
skiing in winter; mountain biking,
hiking and camping in
summer. Far West Racing Association
(FWRA) holds many of
its council races at Mammoth,
through ROKKA, the local race
league, chaired by Laura Preiss.
Events include: ROKKA Race
Camp; the Ski, Ride & Race
Week; three race weekends; the
SoCal Championships, and the
Far West Racing Association
Championships.
Los Angeles Council participates
in the FWSA Annual Ski
Week each season, and this past
year was no exception, so off we
went to Sun Valley, Idaho. What
a great trip it was. Wonderful
snow, the mountain was at 25%
capacity, so runs with no one else
on them, and with no racing,
there was a lot more skiing, and
a great group of people that attended
the Ski Week.
This was not FWSA's typical
ski week - due to COVID,
there had to be some changes
and, there were. The mountain
picnic and the dinner banquet -
came in a box! FWSA and the
hotel staff worked hard to handle
the changes and made it all work!
Ice Skating was great fun! But
what really made it a great trip to
be on - WAS THE PEOPLE
THAT ATTENDED. With all
the odd issues - everyone understood,
all were happy, the skiing
could not have been better, and
everyone just made it work. A
lot less pomp and circumstance,
and a whole lot more fun!
In 2022, LAC will once
again join with FWSA and is
headed to Snowmass, Colorado,
and of course, skiing at Aspen!
This will be a wonderful ski
week for the multitudes that are
signed up to go. Then, we look
forward in 2023 to Jackson Hole,
Wyoming, and all the fun additional
trips that can be done
around that area (Grand Targhee,
Yellowstone tours, etc.).
Convention this year will be
held in San Diego, and the LAC
Man and Woman of the year,
Peter Smith (Wailers) and Soo
Lee (Unrecables), will be there
as we honor them for their past
support of their clubs. We hope
that they go on to be recognized
as the Councils' Man and Woman
of the Year at the FWSA Convention.
These two are being honored
a year late due to the
cancellation of the FWSA Convention
last year. The 88th Annual
FWSA Convention will be
fun to attend, with all the events
planned. We especially enjoy the
Friday night Silent Auction
where many a ski trip or other
great travel bargains can be had,
the Saturday night Awards Banquet,
and then the Sunday morning
brunch, elections, a last few
awards, and your last chance to
say " Hi " and " Bye " to those you
have not had a chance to catch
up with or just met during this
weekend.
