Benefits of Direct and Club
Membership in FWSA

I am the new Vice President - Membership for the Far West Ski Association
and am here to help you to become a Direct Member. If you do not
have a club nearby or just want to go on a trip sponsored by the FWSA,
this article is for you. A " Direct Member " is any individual not already
belonging to a club or council listed on the www.fwsa.org website.
The Far West Ski Association offers a variety of programs and benefits
to not only its club and council members, but Direct Members, as well. They
include: travel opportunities; discounts on lodging, equipment and services
at resorts; recreational racing, publications, and the Annual Convention.
We invite all the Direct Members to join us next year in Boise, Idaho
for our 90th Annual Far West Ski Association Convention. It is an extended
weekend of fun-filled and educational experiences for all snowsports enthusiasts,
whether you are a club member or not.

issues are available online.
The 2022-2023 edition of the Far
West Skier's Guide - the 35th Annual - is
available online at www.fwsa.org. Since
the 2010-2011 issue, each annual edition
has been digitized and remains accessible
on the FWSA website. The 20222023
issue will also be available on the
National Ski Council Federation website
-www.skifederation.org - which serves 29
country wide Ski Councils with approximately
300,000 members. The Far
West Skier's Guide can also be accessed
from FWSA ski council member websites
and many affiliated club sites.

FWSA recently converted to an online membership program, Club Express,
which is fully automated. To become a member you just need to go
to www.fwsa.org and select Member Signup. Select the member type Direct
and let us know how you heard about us. Next will be the Privacy
Terms for your approval. This will bring you to Step 3 where you will fill
out all pertinent information. Step 4 is needed if you plan to attend one of
our trips. Step 5 is to give you the full experience of FWSA. Step 6 is creating
your user name and password so the next time you can just sign in to
find any information you need. The last page is where you accept and go
to payment.
We have had a large increase in Direct Memberships this year, increasing
from 44 to almost 70. This is due to the spectacular trips being offered, and
a desire of many people to get back to a normal life.
If you do have local clubs in your area, we would like to encourage you
to check one out. Direct Members have access to more opportunities for
activities if they join a club in their area, rather than becoming a Direct
Member.
There are more choices for hiking, skiing/boarding, biking, golf,
theater, plus so much more. The wide variety of social events the clubs conduct
provide an opportunity to meet more people with similar interests at
the club level. In addition, if you are a club member, you are automatically
a member of a regional council, and all the councils also have trips and
social events.
If you attend a Far West Ski Association trip this year, be sure to ask
questions of the many members of clubs that are on your trip. They can
fill you in on the advantages of being a member of a local ski club, and especially
in activities that have not been touched upon in this article. Your trip
leader is also a valuable resource. We all want to enhance your enjoyment
of this wonderful Association. ss
