Two Public Affairs sessions were conducted
on Saturday, June 11, at the 2022 Far
West Ski Association Convention held in Portland,
Oregon.
Panelists for the morning Public Affairs Panel " Weather Changes Affecting Mountain Operations

The morning session had a very knowledgeable
group of panelists that addressed current
snowsports issues, and in particular,
climate related challenges impacting not only
western resorts, but resorts throughout the US.
Valuable insight was provided into how leading
ski organizations were creating programs
to address these challenges. Panelists included:
Matt Zaffino, KGW -TV Chief Meteorologist;
Dave Tragethon, Vice President of Marketing,
Sales & Communications, Mt. Hood Meadows;
and Jordan Elliott, President of the Northwest
Ski Areas Association.

of the 10th Mountain Division Foundation.
10th Mountain Division Foundation
The US Army's 10th Mountain Division was created in
1941 during World War II. It is the only Division of its size in
the US military to receive specialized training for fighting in
mountainous conditions. The 10th has served in wars since
WW II, including Afghanistan and Iraq, and still exists today.
World War II veterans of the 10th Mountain Division established
the Tenth Mountain Division Foundation in 1958, to
memorialize the history and exceptional achievements of the
Division, and to perpetuate its legacy for future generations.
The completely volunteer board is comprised of descendants
and volunteers committed to perpetuating the 10th Mountain
legacy and supporting 10th soldiers and their families. It is a
501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization. For additional information,

The afternoon session featured Keynote
Speaker Phil Mahre 1984 Olympic Gold Medalist,
with a surprise visit from his twin
brother Steve Mahre, 1984 Olympic Silver
Medalist, who entertained us with their wisdom
and knowledge of skiing and racing. Also
included on the panel was Trux Dole, President
of the 10th Mountain Division Foundation,
who spoke about its mission to honor and
perpetuate the legacy of the soldiers of the
10th Mountain Division, past, present and future.
Included was the notable impact these
soldiers had on the early development of ski
resorts in the United States. ss
