Our regional councils offer recreational ski racing sanctioned by the Far West Racing
Association (FWRA). We use a handicapping system for our racers, grouping racers
by age groups and based on racing skills and experience. This allows members of all abilities
to have fun and be competitive within their racing class. Recreational racing is a
great way to improve your skiing techniques.
FWSA has established relationships with the National Ski Council Federation
(NSCF), National Brotherhood of Skiers (NBS), US National Forest Service, International
Ski History Association (ISHA), United States Ski & Snowboard (USSA),
the United States Ski Team, Women's Ski Jumping USA, (now under USA Nordic
Sport), North American Snowsports Journalists Association (NASJA), and Snowsports
Industries America (SIA). We are strong supporters of the National Ski Areas
Association (NSAA) Environmental Charter and have endorsed their " Sustainable
Slopes " objectives. We are active participants in the informal and bipartisan Congressional
Ski & Snowboard Caucus. Our goal is to effectively represent the interest of all our
members and the snowsports public.
We will host our 90th Annual FWSA Snowsports Convention in Boise, Idaho at
the Grove Hotel, June 15 - 18, 2023. The FWSA Convention includes fun and educational
programs, and the opportunity for club members and leaders to meet with representatives
from ski resorts and tour operators to plan future travel. The Snowsports Trade Show
and Silent Auction on Friday night is a popular event, which is open to the public. Attendees
can bid on terrific trips, often acquired at great prices. On Saturday, we'll offer
several Snowsports Leadership Academy seminars, Public Affairs panels, and a Keynote
Speaker. Awards are presented to recognize outstanding achievements in snowsports.
Our annual meeting and election of officers is held on Sunday.
FWSA has a partnership with the Far West Ski Foundation (FWSF), a nonprofit
charitable organization that is tax exempt under IRS Code Section 501(c) (3). We work
with the Foundation to support several worthy causes: an Athletic Scholarship Program
for junior racers, an Adaptive Sports and Skier Rehabilitation Program, a Snowsports
History Program, and Fly Girls - Women's Olympic Ski Jumping. We thank all of who
have made generous donations to the Foundation.
FWSA has an outstanding Board of Directors, Trustees, Committee Chairs and dedicated
volunteers who are committed to serving our membership with diverse programs.
With our strong working relationship with our industry partners, these volunteers have
come up through the ranks in their clubs, councils and the Association and have a wealth
of knowledge and history with the FWSA.
