Council Services Links FWSA
to Councils & Clubs

Vice President - Council Services, FWSA
The role of the Vice President of Council Services is to provide a platform for all Council
Presidents of the Far West Ski Association to enhance communications and conduct a variety
of programs. The group meets several times a year to collaborate and administer these programs
down to the club level.
Council Services oversees the following FWSA Programs:
n Club and Council Communication and Outstanding Club Awards
n Social Media Award
n Councils' Volunteer of the Year Recognition
n Charities & Our Community Recognition
The club and council awards and recognition programs provide an opportunity to recognize
hard working volunteers. Our committee chairs strive to administer competitions that
are relevant and easy to enter.
Bill King, who chairs the Club and Council Communications and Outstanding Club
Awards, has made the submission and judging process much simpler thanks to his hard work.
The clubs and councils submit their newsletters and upload a link to their website to be judged.
The editors and administrators of the website are rewarded for their efforts for keeping their
information current. An electronic Medallion is given to the clubs and councils for them to
display on their website or newsletter.
The Social Media Award has had another great year with clubs and councils submitting
many entries. The program uses Facebook as the social media platform for this award. The
judging criteria is based on metrics derived from the percentage of audience, activity, engagements
and reactions. Todd Hood is the Social Media Award chair, and has also been providing
ongoing social media Facebook tutoring throughout the year.
This year the program formally known as the Councils' Man and Woman of the Year, was
officially changed to Councils' Volunteer of the Year. One candidate is chosen to represent
their council at the FWSA Convention. Each candidate is invited to attend a social reception,
FWSA luncheon at a special table, and participate in an oral interview. Sheri Parshall chairs
the program and coordinates with each candidate to ensure they have a wonderful experience.
We are grateful to Big White Ski Resort for their continued sponsorship of the program over
many years. Big White provides a ski trip for two to the winner to the resort.
The Charities & Our Community Program, chaired by Sigrid Noack, conducts a recognition
process that highlights the good work our clubs and councils do to benefit their communities.
Clubs and councils provide an enormous amount of support to local and national
charities. During the FWSA Convention the clubs and councils charity efforts are showcased
by a video presentation.
Council Services strives to provide roughly 150 FWSA ski clubs with tools and information
to successfully serve their members. We welcome ideas and feedback from all club
members and anyone reading this publication. Please contact me with your ideas and requests
