Orange Council
of Ski Clubs

The Orange Council of Ski
Clubs supports our clubs in their
year 'round activities. From the
local beaches and Back Bay to
the mountains you can find Orange
Council clubs doing what
they enjoy. Activities range from
water sports, volleyball, biking,
tennis to winter sports.
Clubs in our council were
active before our council was established
in 1971. Our council is
a member council and active in
the Far West Ski Association, National
Ski Council Federation
and Far West Racing Association.
Our
Council President,
Sheila van Guilder, is a member
of the FWSA Board of Directors,
and is responsible for organizing
our Annual Picnic. George Kish
is the FWSA By-Laws Chairman
and Orange Council Treasurer.
Anne Barneson is our Council
Secretary. We welcome Jess Gorman
to the Council Board as VP
of Travel, and will be responsible

enjoyed by members of all ages
and ability levels.
for coordinating our travel with
FWSA. Jess led our Aspen/
Snowmass trip in 2022 as part of
the FWSA Ski Week, and is in
charge of the council group attending
the Association's 2023
trip to Jackson Hole. In the position
of VP of Travel, he will also
help coordinate the 2024 trip to
Steamboat Springs. He works directly
with our clubs and FWSA
on coordinating these trips.
Maxine Hanlon is VP of Racing
and also coordinates Public Affairs
and Communications for the
council. As VP of Racing, she is
head of the Schusski Race
League and represents the Orange
Council members at racing
events. Through ROKKA Race
League, our racers will participate
in Mammoth Mountain races.
Our clubs also enjoyed trips
to: Taos, New Mexico; Steamboat
Resort, Colorado; and Telluride
Ski Resort, Colorado this last season.
Additional trips planned for
the upcoming season are Park
City, Utah and Sun Valley, Idaho.
This does not include trips to our
number one destination, which is
Mammoth Mountain Resort.
Fountain Valley Ski Club's
well known Wednesday on Water
(WOW) events were still going
strong as the summer was winding
down. Hikes, biking events,
stand up paddle boarding, beach
picnics, club gatherings, volleyball
and golf are all part of the club's
event picture.
The United States Adaptive
Recreation Center (USARC) is
hosting its annual Peak to Peak
bike ride fundraiser, where riders
bike from Bear Mountain to
Mammoth Mountain Resort, October
5-9, 2022. The money
raised will help support their
adaptive programs for the year
ahead.
Balboa Ski and Sports
Club hosted its annual Packages
of Gratitude event in June, where
members join together to pack
and send packages to United
States military personnel. This is
an annual event, and a way for
members to give back to the community
by supporting our military
personnel.
The Orange Council 10th
Annual Picnic is to be held October
8 in Newport Beach. Food,
games and a great opportunity for
our club members to interact is
all part of the fun.

The main function of
our clubs is to interact with the
members through sports and social
events. Please take time to investigate
our clubs. There is one
