Rusty Bindings Ski Club of the Bay Area
Snow Sports Council, was the recipient of the
2023 History Recognition Award for its book,
" Rusty Bindings 50: 1971-2021, " by Historian
and Editor, Tony Baker. This comprehensive
history is a 100-page book that is
jam-packed with information about meetings,
skiing, social events, outdoor activities, volunteering
and support of charities, stories, and
pictures illustrating the 50 year history of the
club. It even includes a listing of the names
and positions of all 265 board members in
their club's history. It is a digital book, and can
be found at the link at the bottom of the page.
Former and current members generously
contributed their time and expertise to the
content and completion of this book about
Rusty Bindings' history. It truly was a collective
effort. The book's expert proofreader was
Susan Elya. Rand Stephens, Janet Spencer
and Dave Marr reviewed the book for content
and general accuracy. Janet Spencer provided
content for the 1970's and Carolyn Vertuca for
the 1980's. Stephanie LaCount contributed the
eloquent prologue about the many social benefits
of belonging to Rusty Bindings Ski Club.
A Quote From the Book. . .
In the Introduction to the book, Tony explained:
" Memorializing Rusty Bindings' extraordinary
50-year history was meant to be. As if by
destiny, eleven large vintage photo albums and two
ragged file boxes crammed with old newsletters
were literally handed to me. In the summer of
2019, I was their fourth home in less than a year.
It had been discussed that all that old stuff be
scanned, discarded, and continue as computer files.
The aging, original paper records, could have been
gone forever. But instead, they survived and were
stacked next to my desk. Until this book was finished,
it seemed like the albums and boxes were
staring at me demanding my attention...
Most everything written in the book was derived
from the newsletters. The rest came from a
few old newspaper articles or were told to me by
credible past members. The book is 100 pages by
design. Some activities and events are not in the
book for lack of space and documented details.
Anything printed in italics are unedited words copied
from the newsletters. Authors are always recognized.
The Prologue superbly describes RB's
social interactions and rewards. Every effort was
made to describe RB's history as it was... " ss

Debbi Kor, Editor of the " Far West NewsFlash, "
FWSA's official E-Publication, was the recipient
of the Bill Berry - Hard News Award.
Presenting the award were Eileen Sanford,
FWSA Service Awards Chair (LEFT) and
Linda Westlund, FWSA President (RIGHT).
Debbi Kor, Editor of the Far West Ski
Association's E-Newsletter, Far West NewsFlash,
was the recipient of the Bill Berry
Hard News Award. This award is bestowed
for outstanding service to skiing by
writers in the printed media.
For the past seven years, Debbi has
written and produced the " Far West NewsFlash "
on a monthly basis. She has total
responsibility for the publication, gathering
and seeking information, writing news
items, and posting. This important digital
publication enables the Far West Ski Association
to not only provide members and
the general public with news items on a
timely basis for programs within the Association,
but news items important to the
snowsports industry, and the subscribers.
The quality of Debbi Kor's written
work on the " Far West NewsFlash " is excellent
and her dedication to disseminating
snowsports news is admirable.
Debbi is a long-time member of
Mountain High Snowsport Club, Northwest
Ski Club Council and Far West Ski
Association. She served seven years as
President of her ski club, led the Travel
Committee for NWSCC for several years,
and has been FWSA's Vice President -
Marketing & Sponsorship for 21 years.
She attended her first FWSA Convention
in 2000, and has been involved ever since,
serving as FWSA Convention Chair since
2018. ss
