Next Generation Performance Support

Youngers here was a time when people actually knew everything they needed to know to perform their job. is is di cult to comprehend and relate to today’s work environment where people are continually being asked to assimilate new information and learn at the same pace of change. e industry we work in has an information pool that is expanding at a rapid speed; this pace of information growth, along with the complexity of new information, places unique demands on the individual work requirements of the professionals we train. Yes, training seems to be continuous, starting with foundational training and further layers of new product information, new competitor product information, payer landscapes, business segments, and more. It is simply unreasonable to expect individuals today (even well-trained individuals) to store in their inner knowledge-base all they need to know to do their job well!

What is required to ensure ongoing e ective performance? A primary driver is the ability to provide learners with intuitive access to the right information at the moment that it needs to be applied. Known as performance support (PS), a new paradigm of on-demand access to critical knowledge is essential. An e ective PS strategy needs to include serving up access to the right information (content) in the right form at the right time. e right information for on-demand learning needs to be targeted and relevant. A PS strategy should be as interactive as possible in order to engage the user and support the necessity that the knowledge be easily assimilated at the moment of need. e advantage that most organizations have for e ectively implementing a PS strategy is the recent rapid adoption of iPad or similar mobile devices. mLearning and mSupport are necessary to sustain key components of performance
