Another key trend in the industry can be seen
in the use of technology to enhance training
efficiency, quality and pull-through activities.
We surveyed its network of training leaders
and asked them to quantify the importance of
technology to the overall success of the
training organization. They rated it a 6.2 on a
7-point scale of importance.

Investments in learning technology vary by
organization, and the funding can be allocated
from different areas. In some cases the
training department allocates funding. In other
organizations the brand teams provide the
budget. In either case, the general trend is that
companies have substantially increased
technology spend, with 56 percent of the
respondents increasing funding. (Figure 3)
Survey responses indicate that technology
spend, as a percent of the total training
budget, ranged from 5 percent to 50 percent
with an average of 22 percent of the total
budget. (Figure 4)
With companies spending more money on
technology, the primary challenge that
remains is in regards to future planning,
coordination between departments and
