BEFORE
"Most companies
will lead their design
plans with technology,"
Ewing said. We really
wanted to make the
rooms feel like they
were more organic and
more hands-on when
you walk in and not

But the technology
is certainly key to
training delivery. In
fact, Ewing worked with Astellas IT to
incorporate Apple TV technology so
that trainees can wirelessly share their
sales aids on any plasma display in the
room. Additionally CL and D will
release an internal iPad app designed to
engage colleagues with the new
learning center in a variety of ways.
"Our vision for the iPad app is to
incorporate a sense of community,
gaming mechanics, and multiple
streams of dialogue in this LIVE
environment," Ewing said. "Again it's
moving further and further away from
a push mentality of a single facilitator
in the front of the room.

Reaction and Action
Based on the initial success of the

on the right track. The ALC itself is

future," Ewing said. "We're not

rooms are flexible, they're open.
They're supported by technology, but
built to adapt to the changing needs of
the learner. We're really challenging our
facilitators to think differently as well,
to start to go out of their comfort
zones. We're starting to see our training
managers move away from the front of
the room, out from behind the
podium. Ultimately we allowed
research and our evolving business
needs to drive the design, but we are
most excited about the Astellas
Learning Center becoming a platform
of learning and collaboration for years
to come." I
