SMORGASBORD

AVENGERS ENDGAME HAS
COME AND GONE, but Earth's
Mightiest Heroes are waiting
to be assembled all over again
in Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3:
The Black Order. Getting the
band back together is just the
beginning, though, as Captain
America, Black Widow, the
Hulk, Hawkeye, and Iron Man
represent a mere five of the
game's nearly three dozen
playable super heroes.

LOTS OF ASSEMBLY
REQUIRED

As with the action-RPG series'
previous two entries, the
Nintendo Switch exclusive lets
players mix and match characters to assemble the ultimate
four-member teams. As you
progress through the story, you
unlock new recruits, continually growing your roster and
opening fresh opportunities to
put your favorite four together.

Limited only by your imagination, the varied mash-ups can
include super heroes from all
corners of the Marvel universe,
from X-Men and Guardians of
the Galaxy to the Defenders
and Spider-Man.
Teams aren't permanent
either, so experimentation
is highly encouraged. As the
game's campaign unfolds,
players will unlock safe spots
called S.H.I.E.L.D. Points, where

they can manage their swelling
roster. Upon reaching these
designated spots, you can swap
in a new character - while
dismissing another - or change
up your entire team. Managing
characters also means leveling
them up and applying ability
points to make them even
more powerful.
Things get more interesting
when you take the game's
four-player co-op into account.
Leveraging the best line-up
becomes even more strategic
when each player injects their
particular play-style into their
preferred hero. Thanks to the
Switch's hybrid nature, this sort
of dynamic action can happen
locally on the same screen - or
on four separate systems - or
online. The Black Order can
certainly be tackled solo,
with single players swapping
between characters on the fly,
but the option to assemble
with friends is the best way to
experience the crazy crossovers
and imaginative mashups.
