COLLECTING
SPIDEY
JUST BECAUSE JON WATTS DIRECTED TWO SPIDER-MAN
FILMS DOESN'T mean that he isn't a fan who can geek out at
the thought of collecting merch based on the character. "I try
to get one of everything," he laughs. "I have so much stuff...
I love all the Hot Toys, too. They're just so gorgeous; I've got
my own little Spider-Verse on my bookshelf."
His prize possession, though, is actually the vinyl version
of Michael Giacchino's score for Spider-Man: Homecoming.
"It's such a beautiful thing," he says. "That's the thing that
I stare at when I'm sitting at my desk. The artwork on it is
amazing. I can't remember the name of the artist off the top
of my head, but just the fact that it's this vinyl print to the
soundtrack of my movie that, if I ever wanted to, I could put
on the record player, just sit back and listen to. There's just
something so cool about that to me."

just being honest with where
they would both be after Tony
died. I realize that they would
have gone from this kind of
adversarial position to being
the only two people who really
understand it on the same
level. Pepper as well. From the
beginning, he was as close to
Tony as anyone and now here
he is in this new role and, as a
result, he and Peter would have
a deeper understanding in each
other. I thought that could be a
really interesting and surprising
relationship to explore."
And then there's Nick
Fury, with Samuel L. Jackson
reprising his iconic role. In
Far from Home, it's Fury who
recruits Peter from a school
trip in Europe to work with

self-described hero from an
alternate Earth (thus establishing, in live action, the multiverse, which was introduced in
animated form via Spider-Man:
Into the Spider-Verse).
"I wanted to make things
harder for Peter than they were
in Homecoming," the director
points out, "and I've always
wanted to see Spider-Man and
Nick Fury face off. This movie
provided a perfect opportunity,
because I wanted to put him
up against someone who isn't
this warm, friendly, inspiring
mentor. And Nick Fury's angrier
than ever. He's been gone for
five years and he's not a guy
who likes to be in the dark
about anything. The Avengers
as he knows them are gone.
The world doesn't make sense
