Plus, there are four minor league teams across the state—the Rome Braves, the Gwinnett Braves, the Augusta GreenJackets and the Savannah Sand Gnats. While major league baseball is an event, the minors are where the future stars of baseball hone their skills. It’s also more of a vacation for attendees, simply enjoying the entire experience of minor league baseball. For details on these four minor league teams, see “Major league fun at the ‘minors,’” page 18. With spring in full swing, another great way to spend some outdoors time in Georgia is to position yourself on or beside one of our many rivers. From whitewater rafting down the Chattooga to meandering along a lazy river in a tube or canoe (maybe dropping in a fishing line while you float), the rivers in Georgia contribute substantially to the lifeblood of the state’s recreation. These waterways provide drinking water and water for our crops, and are an important part of our economy. Read more about our “Remarkable rivers,” page 22. If you’ve already experienced a great Georgia vacation, please tell us about it! Enter our essay contest, “My favorite Georgia vacation,” by April 15 and you could win $50 if it’s published! (See ad, page 47.)
