Today’s festival, the 40th Anniversary Powers’ Festival, remains strong with 50,000 attendees and still takes place on the same grounds. Named one of the “Top 20 Events” for September by the Southeast Tourism Society, this festival features country, gospel, folk and contemporary music, including performances by Jason Connelly and Diane Durrett; a juried competition with more than 120 painters, potters and jewelry makers; and demonstrations of blacksmithing and cornmeal-making at the original Powers’ Plantation gristmill.
