Celebrating the Georgia lifestyle GEMC ® Appreciate the coverage We had a great turnout for the first annual Atlanta Free To Breathe 5K for lung cancer research in August. Approximately 600 people participated, and nearly $40,000 was raised for lung cancer research. Great issue. And, I loved seeing my story in print [see My Georgia, “Mimosa summers,” page 56]. I’ve had several seniors come up to me and say they saw it. One had me sign my picture, and she took my picture! Isn’t that cute?! I really appreciate and thank you for publishing my story. I always enjoy GEORGIA Magazine and read it cover to cover. —Jimmie Batchelor, Stockbridge Letters to the editor: We welcome your letters! Please include your name, address and phone number. Thank you, REA Many long years ago, when I was first married (1948), we lived in the country in Central Georgia. We lighted our house with kerosene lamps. Ugh! Although the Georgia Power Co. was established a few miles from us, they refused to extend their power to the last three houses, which included ours. On the scene came our gallant white horse, the wonderful REA. They strung the lines (we had to buy the poles and secure the right of way, but that was no problem)—and voila! We had electricity! I will forever be grateful to Ocmulgee EMC for their efforts to “light up my world.” I do not have EMC power now and do not receive GEORGIA Magazine, but my daughter and son-in-law do, and they save each issue for me. I enjoy it immensely. Thank you for a great magazine that’s easy to read and always interesting. —Nellie Coley, Hawkinsville GEORGIA MAGAZINE Advertising: Contact Laurel George, (404) 541-0628, or Laine Wood, (770) 289-5700, or (800) 544-4362 (in Georgia).
