Helping needy Georgians Since 1993, hunters have been bringing meat to the tables of those in need through the Georgia Hunters for the Hungry (GHFTH) program. Currently, hunters can share their harvest with those in need by donating ﬁeld-dressed deer at 15 participating processors through Jan. 15, 2011. In 2009, nearly 30,400 pounds of venison were collected, processed and distributed to food banks across the state. This meat provided approximately 152,000 meals for needy Georgians. In 2007, the program served up its 1 millionth meal, and since the program’s inception, more than 288,282 pounds of venison have been donated. Donation opportunities have been extended to include the Drop Back a Pack program, allowing hunters to donate some of their processed venison when they visit the processor to pick up their meat. It is generally acknowledged that Denmark is revered more for her accomplishments than her longevity. Some of her achievements include being the only woman in the 1928 graduating class at the Medical College of Georgia, in Augusta, and the institution’s third female graduate. Plus, she was the ﬁrst physician on staff at Henrietta Egleston Hospital for Children when it opened in 1928 in Atlanta.
