But, fortunately for us and for Georgia’s economy, late summer/early autumn yields bushels of glorious apples— varieties like Pink Lady, Fuji, Rome, Golden Delicious and Granny Smith, for starters. Many of the 13 Georgia apple orchards included in “A bountiful harvest,” page 18, are “U-pick,” and most offer lots of other produce, local products and, yes, even entertainment. Did you know there are hundreds of apple dishes? Check out just a few of our recipes—with apples at their core—in “Savor the possibilities,” page 54. Keep in mind we often offer additional content online, like more recipes and a list of apple festivals (see page 59A in our online edition). Celebrating growing things is part of this transitional season.
