Honorable Mention: Melanie Martin, Cleveland
Two-year-old potbellied pig Emmett snuggles up
in his play tunnel. He shares a home with Melanie
Martin and her husband, Stacey, of Cleveland
(Habersham EMC). “Emmett is so smart. He’s like
having a 3-year-old who loves to eat his vegetables,”
Melanie says. “He has a sweet disposition
and has always been loving. Emmett will sit,
‘dance,’ bow, lie down, give kisses and give ‘highfives’
for snacks of Cheerios or shredded wheat. He
loves a good belly rub and will oblige you for any
length of time. He is the best pet I’ve ever had.”

Mark Aderholdt,
Eastanollee
Bailey and her tree frog,
Mr. Chubbys, cool off on
a summer day. Bailey
is the daughter of Mark
Aderholdt, of Eastanollee
(Hart EMC), who
caught this funny moment
on camera as the
frog hopped on Bailey’s
face. Bailey says that
her frog is fun to play
with and she enjoys
swimming with him in
the pool.

Honorable Mention: Jennifer Glaze, Eastanollee
Jennifer Glaze, of Eastanollee (Hart EMC), handraised
and released several orphaned squirrels,
including Phoebe, who loves to visit the family
and get a pecan treat. “We rescued Phoebe and
her brothers when their nest was accidentally cut
from a tree at our church in 2011. With the advice
of a local veterinarian/wildlife rehabilitator, my
mom and I were able to raise them to adulthood
and release them in my yard. Phoebe still comes
to visit, takes pecans from my hand, and even lets
me pat her on the head. Her visits really make my
day. You can’t feed Phoebe and not have a smile on
your face!”

Summer Pridgen, Ocilla
Simon the slider turtle
perches perfectly before
stepping onto the grass.
Summer Pridgen, of Ocilla
(Irwin EMC), has had
Simon for six months, and
adores him. She says,
“He likes to swim to the
top of the fish tank and
swim back down really
fast when I feed him. He
is a very exciting little
turtle who’s full of energy
and happiness!”
