‘A whole new stratosphere stratosphere’
Kip Moore celebrates country music success
ust off the Florida line sits the town of Tifton, a picturesque place once known as the home of the second-largest magnolia tree in the world … and now recognized as the hometown of one of the most promising new country music artists of the year—Kip Moore. The stories of Moore’s childhood and often rebellious teenage years in his hometown sit sweetly amongst the infectious melodies of his songs, leaving fans with a personal connection that is hard to resist. Last year, this small-town connection became even stronger with the release of his chart-topping debut album “Up All Night,” which seamlessly weaved the town of Tifton into each lyric. Money,” where Moore recalls the days of being “stuck here in this town” and “escaping to the radio” every weekend. “I grew up in smalltown America, and where I went to high school, people were just trying to escape from their everyday lives,” he remarks. “They were looking just to save enough money for the weekend … and the beer.” Or consider his platinum-selling, career-changing smash “Somethin’ ’Bout A Truck,” which indirectly tells the story of the night Moore borrowed his dad’s Silverado truck to take his new girl out for the evening. “My dad used to sit in his recliner and fall asleep watching TV, and when I came in from that date, all I said to him was that ‘there is someMore online at www.georgiamagazine.org

thing about a truck,’” he chuckles. “It’s that memory the song is based on.” Whatever song he sings, Moore has essentially become a small-town savior to his growing legion of fans, proclaiming proudly of the area he came from … the small town he couldn’t wait to get away from … and the same town he craves to go back to now. Set to appear at the Georgia Theatre in Athens Jan. 19, Moore now finds himself with a blossoming career that shows no signs of stopping. Indeed, it was 2012’s “Up All Night” that took his career to new heights when it debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard Country Album chart and No. 5 on the Billboard Top 200. It quickly became the bestselling album for a
