Meet this year’s Georgia Grown executive chefs Celebrating the 2013 Georgia Grown Executive Chef program are, from left, Georgia Restaurant Association Executive Director Karen Bremer, Gov. Nathan Deal, Georgia Department of Agriculture Commissioner Gary Black, Executive Chef Dave Snyder, Executive Chef Ahmad Nourzad, Executive Chef Linton Hopkins and Executive Chef Jennifer Hill Booker. Jennifer Hill Booker Besides working as a personal chef and running her own catering company, Your Resident Gourmet, in Lilburn, Executive Chef Booker also spends time as a culinary educator. Her upcoming cookbook, “Goin’ Down South: A Chef’s Journey Home,” pays tribute to her agrarian heritage. Booker provides culinary therapy for residents at The Cottages on Mountain Creek, and has partnered with Hard Rock Café-Atlanta as their celebrity chef for the Hard Rock Café Culinary Series, and is a culinary expert for Williams-Sonoma. Linton Hopkins Executive Chef Hopkins is owner of Restaurant Eugene and Holeman & Finch Public House, which he runs with his wife Gina. He is president of the Southern Foodways Alliance and was the recipient of the 2012 James Did you know? The Georgia Department of Agriculture and the Georgia Restaurant Association appoint four Georgia Grown Executive Chefs each year. They help raise awareness about the availability of the quality, local products that can be found in Georgia and promote relationships between chefs and farmers across the state. 42D Beard Award for “Best Chef Southeast.” Noted for his passion about Southern cooking, Hopkins was also named a “Best New Chef” by Food & Wine Magazine in 2009. A longtime Atlanta Braves fan, this year, Hopkins opened three locations of H&F Burger at Turner Field in Atlanta. Ahmad Nourzad With more than 25 years of experience in the kitchen, Atlanta-based Affairs to Remember Caterers’ Executive Chef Nourzad researches and develops new food ideas for the company, among other duties. A native of Tehran, Iran, Nourzad came to the Atlanta cooking scene after working in Vienna, Austria and Austin, Texas. In April, he served as a judge at the Second Annual Golden Onion chef competition, in Vidalia. Dave Snyder Executive Chef Snyder has more than 28 years of restaurant industry experience. A graduate of the New England Culinary Institute, he opened Halyards Restaurant in St. Simons in 2000, and Tramici Restaurant in 2007. Snyder serves on the College of Coastal Georgia’s culinary/hospitality advisory committee and is an active member of the American Culinary Federation. In April, he showcased his skills in the Second Annual Golden Onion chef competition. More online at www.georgiamagazine.org GEORGIA GROWN SPRAVKA IMAGING Georgia Grown recipe spotlight Fresh Georgia Strawberry Bread Recipe courtesy of Georgia Grown 1-1/2 cups of chopped Q & A Orchard’s Georgia strawberries 4 eggs 1-1/4 cups vegetable oil 1-3/4 cups sugar 3 cups all-purpose ﬂour 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon salt 1-1/2 cups chopped Georgia Pecan Co. pecans Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place chopped strawberries in a food processor and process until ﬁnely chopped and a little mushy; set aside. In another bowl, combine eggs, oil and sugar. Stir in strawberries. In a separate bowl, sift together dry ingredients; toss in pecans. Add strawberry mixture to dry mixture and stir until well blended. Pour into 2 well-greased loaf pans.
