s the days grow shorter and the
temperatures begin to drop, the
fall season is the perfect time to give
your lawn a little attention to keep it
healthy and weed-free for the coming
colder months. There are two options
to prevent winter lawn weeds: seed
the lawn or apply a pre-emergent.
If your lawn has dead patches
or looks rather thin, laying sod or
reseeding can be very effective to
achieve a healthy, dense lawn. When
reseeding your lawn, however, it’s
important to exclude the use of a preemergent, as it will prevent the new
grass seed from germinating. If you’re
not reseeding, then take time to apply a pre-emergent like Pike Crabgrass Preventer. Crabgrass preventer
is best applied in mid-September and
must be applied no later than midOctober. Garden experts recommend
applying the preventer immediately,
even before you see weed growth.
