Family Promise update
As part of the Family Promise
host congregation network, I appreciate the focus on homelessness to
increase the public’s awareness that
families who become homeless have
a safe place to stay together. [See
“The family that stays together,” May
2013, page 16; bit.ly/fampromise.]
An update to your May article
on the Family Promise network, Family Promise of North Fulton/North
DeKalb, www.familypromisenfd.org,
has been serving families since February 2013. It was listed as “Under
Development,” which, at press time,
may have been the case.
I would also like to point out that
in addition to hosts from the Methodist, Presbyterian and Episcopalian
congregations, we also have two Jewish temples in our host congregation

Notes on liberty
I find it quite ironic that you publish an explanation of the ways our
beloved Founders envisioned the relationship between the federal government and the states after the last
three Congresses have virtually obliterated the idea of “states’ rights”
through such agencies as EPA, TSA
and HHS, and with laws like “Obamacare,” Dodd-Frank and immigration
policy. [See “Liberty notes,” July 2013,
page 8; bit.ly/0713picthis.]
To be fair, though, this trend is a
direct result of, and is the most serious and terrible legacy of the War Between the States. By sheer force of
guns and ammunition, we were left
with the overarching philosophy that
the federal government has any power it wishes to take, and the states are
forced to implement federal dictates.

the public. We are an exotic animal
sanctuary that takes in abused or unwanted exotic pets and wildlife as
well as some farm animals. We are
also the home of the famous Baloo
the Bear, Leo the Lion and Shere
Kahn the Tiger. This trio has been
featured in National Geographic and
on “ABC World News” with Diane
Sawyer.
We would love the opportunity
to get the news out that we are here
and a gem in Georgia.

Golf in Georgia
I wanted to say hello and thank
you for the mention about The Georgia Golf Trail on page 8 of the June
2013 issue [see bit.ly/14KG2Nf]—a
friend told me about it. We are very
excited about promoting Georgia to
the world as a premier golf destination. We have partnered with the
Georgia Department of Tourism and
are working hard to bring people to
Georgia from all over the world.

Weighing in
I found the article “Lighten up!”
in the July 2013 issue interesting and
critically relevant [see page 16; bit.ly/
ltnupp]. I want to point out a great
irony. Within the article is this sentence: “Georgia has the second highest rate of childhood obesity after
Mississippi, with about 30 percent of
kids between ages 10-17 over a
healthy weight.” Take another look at
the issue’s front cover.
