Consider this!

* Nearly one in eight women in
the United States will develop
breast cancer during their lifetime, according to the American Cancer Society.
* In Georgia, approximately
1,100 women each year die of
breast cancer and 5,300 will be
diagnosed.
* Mortality rates for breast cancer are higher for black women
than any other race or ethnic
group.
* Through routine screening and
early detection, 97 percent of
women can survive five years
or more.

But more than just a
color, pink stands for something greater: Breast cancer
awareness-and Georgians
are rallying around this important cause.
According to the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention in
Atlanta, not counting some kinds
of skin cancer, breast cancer in the
United States is the most common
cancer in women. The American
Cancer Society estimates that this
year, about 232,670 new cases of
invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women in the U.S. and
about 40,000 women will die from
is
the disease. Though breast cancer
most prevalent in women, men can
also be diagnosed and die from it.
Georgians should be especially
concerned about their risk.

Raising awareness
I wanted to thank you for the
Breast Cancer Awareness Month coverage. [See "More than just a color,"
October 2014, page 23; bit.ly/

digital edition, and it's great!

Fantastic product
I was excited to see One Screw
Loose featured in the November 2014
issue. [See "What the South is all
about," page 30; bit.ly/prod1114.]
I discovered their booth at an
arts-and-crafts show in Macon a couple of years ago, and I fell in love
with the Sweet Tea Jelly With Ginger
Peach and the Jacked-Up Peach Pecan Jelly Rub. These make great gifts,
and they are both great on biscuits,
toast and crackers.

Love my magazine
Thank you for all the interesting
stories, news, pictures and updates
we receive in your magazine. I absolutely enjoy getting my copy each
month more than subscriptions of
other magazines I actually have to
pay for!
I come from a long line of
Benfields and have several distant
family and friends who work locally
for our Habersham EMC. Keep up
the good work!

Thanks for supporting veterans!
As a 100-percent disabled veteran and a very satisfied customer for
more than 10 years, I would like to
thank Paul Wood for his article on
veterans-especially the Wounded
Warriors Project. [See Viewpoint,
"Over there? What about over here?"

Thanks again for your remembrance
of veterans.

Error noted
We regret there were errors in the
December 2014 cover feature "Just good
people," page 26, bit.ly/jgp1214. The story
incorrectly identified Stable Moments as a
501(c)(3) organization, which is the designation for a federally registered nonprofit
charity. Stable Moments is not a 501(c)(3)
organization, and donations to this group
are not tax-deductible.
Also, photos published showing the
horses with Rebecca Miller and children,
all wearing Barn Buddy Program shirts, on
the cover and in the article were taken at
The Horse Rescue Relief and Retirement
Fund Inc. facility at SaveTheHorses Rescue Farm, SaveTheHorses.org, in Cumming, where the Barn Buddy Program
originated in 2011. In the state of Georgia
there are approximately 9,000 children in
foster care at any given time. The program's mission is to facilitate special connections in a physically and emotionally
safe environment between rescued horses and children who have been adopted or
are in foster care. This program is offered
free of cost. SaveTheHorses is 100 percent supported by donations and volunteers. The Horse Rescue, Relief and Retirement Fund Inc., a nonprofit, has been a
registered 501(c)(3) charity since in 1998.
