TV and Film-Tuition Free
Joel Struder always had a passion for special eﬀects and movies
and now he puts his passion into
practice working on ﬁlms like Spider
Man and The Avengers 3.
Melinda Anderson found her calling in costume design; something
she does for the hit TV show, The
Walking Dead.
Cory Way works alongside some
of the ﬁlm industry's most notable names, including working as a
production assistant on the Jennifer
Garner ﬁlm, Miracles from Heaven.
You may think all three prepared
for careers in TV and ﬁlm at UCLA
or NYU. And you probably assume
they all live and work in Hollywood.
You would be wrong.
Melinda, Cory, and Joel work
right here in Georgia where they
learned their craft at one of Geor-

gia's technical colleges.
And now, students interested in
following their path, can learn these
skills tuition-free.
Movie Production and Set
Design is one of 12 programs that
qualify for free tuition under Georgia's HOPE Career Grant. Formerly
known as the Strategic Industries
Workforce Development Grant, the
HOPE Career Grant is available to
students who enroll in select majors
speciﬁcally aligned with one of 12
industries in which there are more
jobs available in Georgia than there
are skilled workers to ﬁll them.
Georgia is now the number one
ﬁlming location in the world. The
ﬁlm industry generated $9.5 billion
in economic impact to the state last
year. The ﬁlm industry is certainly
booming in Georgia, which means

jobs, jobs, jobs.
As Georgia's primary resource for
workforce development, the Technical College System of Georgia
is a trusted partner that provides
students with the skills needed to ﬁll
those jobs.
Working with the Georgia Film
Academy, Cory earned a Design &
Media Production Technology Diploma from Atlanta Technical College,
while Melinda and Joel both earned
an On-Set Production Certiﬁcate
from Gwinnett Technical College.
All three are living out their
dreams working in TV and Film-
right in their own backyard.
