Jewelry designer and metalsmith
Joanne M. Hernandez of Atlanta loves
participating in the annual Holiday Artists Market sponsored by the
Spruill Center for the Arts, where she
teaches jewelry-making.
"It's a true gift bazaar of very
high-quality work, and there's something special about the original
Spruill homestead," says Hernandez,
owner of the online Reckless Eye Studio. "It's a warm and inviting place to
display art and a wonderful venue for
artists, because people come to shop.
Jennifer [Price, director of the Spruill
Gallery,] has an amazing eye for arranging the work. Being part of this
market is how I know it's the holidays."
Price says that staging a winter
wonderland of handwrought gifts in
the historic Spruill home makes this
market unique. Instead of individual
booths, Price mixes the ceramics,
steel sculptures, wooden bowls, ornaments, blown glass, leather goods,
soaps and jewelry in eye-dazzling
displays that change day to day.
"We completely decorate the
house and always have a hot cocoa
bar," Price says.
Many customers return every
year to the 24-year-old festival, which
showcases work by 100 vendors.
"There's something for everyone," Price says.
