GEORGIA MAGAZINE

I want to personally express my
appreciation for your generosity in
support of the Georgia 4-H Photography Project. Georgia 4-H is very
thankful for your assistance in keeping this project going. It means so
much more to me than you will ever
know, but even more to Georgia 4-H
itself. For that, I want to say "thank
you" from us all.

Supporting Georgia 4-H
GEORGIA Magazine supports
Georgia 4-H through a sponsorship of
the Photography Project. Below are
a few notes from this year's project
winners. To see award-winning photography from several of these students, turn to our October 2017
Snapshot section, beginning on page
42; bit.ly/4hpp2017.
My sincere thanks and appreciation for your support of 4-H programs
in general, but more specifically for
your support of my involvement in
the 2017 Georgia State Congress.
When I joined 4-H as a 9-yearold, I looked forward to the day I
would compete for the title of Master
4-H'er. Because of your support, I am
now able to join my peers in Atlanta.
As I look toward attending Spelman
College this fall, I am also eager to
continue volunteering with 4-H during my holiday and summer breaks.
Again, thank you, and know that,
without your support, I may not have
been able to attend State Congress.
-Halima K. Monds, Grady
County 4-H, first-place winner,
Georgia 4-H Photography
Project, Cairo
Thank you for allowing me, as
well as other deserving 4-H members, to experience State Congress.
I'm so thankful for the opportunity to
speak about the art of photography.
I'm so thankful.

winner, Georgia 4-H Photography

Man's best friend may also be
his best medicine. Therapy and
service dogs provide support and
healing for hospital patients, nursing home residents and people with
physical or emotional disabilities.
While their missions are similar,
their approaches differ. Therapy
dogs are typically personal pets
who, along with their owners, have
been certified or registered to visit
people in need. Service animals
live with owners who have physical
or emotional disabilities and assist
them with their daily lives.
See "Just what the doctor ordered" on page 16 to learn more
about how these compassionate
canines are bringing new meaning
to the phrase "good dog."
Speaking of doing good for
others, on page 20 we visit an organization that has long been known
for "Doing the Most Good." The
Salvation Army's iconic Red Kettle
bell-ringers are emblematic of the
holiday season and serve as beacons for shoppers who are looking
to brighten the spirits of others in
their communities. See "Ringing the
bell for a reason" to find out how
these dedicated volunteers help
make Christmas merry for those
who need it most.
Last, we welcome 2018 by
taking a look at New Year's Eve
celebrations around the state. A
buzzard, a shamrock, a possum and
a gold nugget are among the many
"things that drop" in the Peach State
during the traditional countdown
on Dec. 31.
Turn to "Dropping in" on page
30 for suggestions on unique ways
to ring in the new year without
ever leaving Georgia.
