while maybe not intended, was still very valuable."
Despite Elliot's contributions to science, she is not a scientist. She and her fellow banders are all volunteers. "Most people
do this because it's a passion," she says.
The data that Elliot collects on ruby-throated hummingbirds, the only species to breed in Georgia, is helpful, but the
event's real value is educating the public about hummingbirds
and our role in protecting them.
