elen's Georgia Mountain Coaster celebrated its one-year anniversary this
summer. Located across from the town's City Hall, the Alpine coaster features
carts that descend on a steel track, twisting through a wooded 9-acre site
just off Main Street.
Riders board carts that hold one or two passengers. The carts then ride the track
up the mountainside to the top for a 300-foot elevation change.
The track winds its way down the mountainside through dips, twists and curves
that cross over and under one another.
To ride, children must be at least 3 years old and 38 inches tall. They must be
accompanied by someone at least 54 inches tall, who controls the cart's speed.
"People love the coaster because they have their own carts and they can control
their speed on the descent," says Judson Brown, operator for the ride. "It's not like
a regular coaster, where the cars are all connected and the speed is regulated by an
operator.
"Our coaster is the first of its kind in Georgia. It's a really great ride through the
mountain forest."
