It has been said that "you never
miss the water until the well runs dry."
That is how it is with electricity.
I am so thankful to my co-op for working so hard to keep the power on.
When I was about 13 years old
my family lived in town. We had all
the conveniences of having electricity,
such as refrigerators, stove, running
water and lights. Then [in 1940],
my dad bought an old house in the
country that did not have power. We
went from living it up to ... guess what?
Nothing but darkness. An outhouse
(two-seater), wash pot, no refrigerator
or running water.
Because President Franklin D.
Roosevelt signed an executive order
to help fund electric power to rural
areas, we did not go without for very
long. We didn't have to watch for the
In my lifetime, I have been
blessed to have electricity.
Why do I love my EMC? It would
be hard to do without it. I have electric
power to plug up my oxygen machine
so I can breathe better and live longer.

Life without power
Friend of felines at the EMC
I grew up with plenty of dogs but no cats. Marriage, however, can change a
man. I've owned a half-interest in several felines, two of which came through our
Mike McGee, senior vice president of Middle Georgia EMC in Vienna,
found a kitten in the road and took her home. He named her Missy, spoiled her
rotten, then gave her to us. She rambled too far into the woods one night and left
an empty place in our hearts.
Soon after Missy disappeared, Mike rescued another kitten. He spoiled her
even worse than the first. There's no way to get past Tabs without scratching her
belly or behind her ears. She insists on attention, which we gladly provide.
I hope the many dogs I've loved never read this, but there's something I can't
deny. Mike is not the only man who loves cats. Just ask Tabs.

Our electric cooperative rocks!
What do Carroll EMC members like best about their co-op based in Carrollton?
Here are a few of their Facebook notes ...
* Kim Facklam Ivester: I love how CEMC supports educators (and counselors) and
students in our community. It's been wonderful to have many students over the years
earn the CEMC lineman scholarship and educators be awarded the Bright Ideas
grant! Thank you!
* Carol Shuman Brown: [CEMC gives] great service every day and at very reasonable
prices. [They are] on standby at all times, but especially when storms come through
our area. They seem to always be reaching out to the community. They have programs to help teachers and school staff, and they also reach out to students with the
lineman scholarships. And if that wasn't enough they provide their yearly meetings,
invite all members to attend and offer awesome door prizes for all ages. They even
offer a drawing for a free truck.
* Kim McKinney: They're super, super quick to respond when I get in touch with
them. They work tirelessly to get our power on when we've lost power, and if I have
ever gotten in a bind, I know if I call them they will work with me! 13 years with
Carroll EMC, and I wouldn't change a thing.
* Darlene Head: I always get the nicest people on the phone. So caring and understanding and always willing to help in my time of need.
* Margaret Harris: CEMC is unlike other big utility companies. Simply put, they give
back to the community. Family taking care of family. The employees they hire-
from office to linemen-go the extra mile for the customers. Thank you.
