Dickerson's Bakery, Braselton
Dickerson's Bakery in Braselton began in 2016 as a small
enterprise specializing in cake pops and grew into a family
bakery offering catered baked goods for any occasion. Desserts
are baked fresh daily and made with all-natural ingredients.
Orders can be gift-wrapped, picked up or delivered. Gluten-free
is also an option.
" We're located out of our home, and we pretty much do
everything online either through our website or our Facebook
page, " says head pastry chef Kacey Dickerson, who operates
Dickerson's Bakery with her husband, Chris. " Everything we
do is custom-made. We don't have anything that's just here for
people to buy.
" It's more personable when you buy stuff from bakeries
that are home-based or local bakeries. They're more customized. It's better for the customer instead of just buying something that is the same as all the other cakes and desserts. "
seven years before opening The SugarMill in 2018.
When asked what he considers the key to The SugarMill's
success, Cyrus Joseph replies: " Keeping it simple. Just keep it
simple; don't overthink it. "
Keeping it simple has enabled the Joseph family to perfect
the craft of creating beautifully decorated cakes, cupcakes
and cheesecakes in addition to baking delicious pastries and
breads-all made from scratch. But the rewards of operating a
small, family bakery don't stop there.
" Working with the general public and building a rapport
with them-that's always been a plus for me, " Cyrus Joseph
says. " We're just trying to keep people happy, especially in these
times. We put God first, and we love what we do. "
A shared love of baking inspired Chris Adams and his
mother, Lesia Foelker, to open The Front Porch dessert shop in
Valdosta in July 2018. Adams' wife, Stephanie, also works there.
" All our baked goods are made in-house every day, " Chris
Adams says. " We offer whole cakes, specialty cakes and cake by
the slice. We also offer cupcakes, cookies, brownies, blondies,
pecan chewy bars and Brookies [cookie dough brownies]. I've
just begun making from-scratch whole cheesecakes, which so
far have been a big hit. "
Other Front Porch delicacies include homemade, slowchurned ice cream and snow cones. bit.ly/frontporchvaldosta,

" Everybody that's related to me works here, " Cyrus Joseph,
owner of The SugarMill in Conyers, says with a laugh.
The Joseph family bakers include Cyrus' wife, Magnolia;
daughters, Makenzie and Madisen; brother Corey; and uncle
Carlisle. The Josephs have been in the bakery business for about
10 years. They sold bakery items out of their house for the first

Vance's Bakery Bar, Augusta
Customers can experience a different approach to baked
treats at Vance's Bakery Bar in Augusta. All of the family-owned
bakery's desserts contain alcohol.
Owners Troy and Amy Adamo came up with the idea by
asking each other, " What would you do if you could do anything? " He wanted to run a bar, and she wanted to bake. So they
decided to do both.
The Adamos sell their baked-fresh desserts on their website and at pop-up locations in the area. Menu items include
Bourbon Chocolate Chip Cookies, Fireball Cheesecake Shots,
Boozy Oatmeal Cream Pies and a variety of decadent cupcakes
such as Margarita, Lynchburg Lemonade and Irish Car Bomb.
The couple are poised to expand their business by opening
a 21-and-older, full-service bar and cocktail lounge in a fully
restored circa-1892 building.
" Vance's much-anticipated storefront will be open in
downtown Augusta by the holidays, " Amy Adamo says.
