The AntiqueTrail.com project started more
than 10 years ago, when co-founder Marcia Cole
Huffman of Huntsville, Ala., was shopping at an
antique store in Alabama. A lifelong antiques lover,
she had recently retired and knew she wanted to fill
her home with new finds.
At the checkout counter, the shop owner asked
Cole Huffman about her previous work with Boeing
and NASA and whether she'd be willing to create
a website for the shop. Cole Huffman agreed, and
soon after that other stores in the area asked for a
website, too.
" Everyone knew they needed to be online, but
they didn't know how to do it, " she says.
Cole Huffman worked with Bruce Pate, a friend
and specialist in tourism and community websites, to create a hub for the shop sites to be hosted
together. As the duo ramped up their project for
antique stores in Alabama, shop owners in Georgia
began to reach out, and then people in surrounding
states asked to be on the list as well.
Now the site covers more than half of the United
States, stretching from Texas up to Vermont and
down to Florida.
" Almost all of them have made it through
COVID, and some stores say it's their best time ever, "
Cole Huffman says.

dozen people-knew that antique stores would struggle as coronavirusrelated restrictions prevented in-person shopping. They opened up a
free online store for members to post their items, which is still open and
available.
" If shoppers don't want to drive around and look, they can shop online,
in multiple states, " Cole Huffman says. " They can also buy items and pick
