Like many spas, The Spa at Barnsley
Resort offers couples the opportunity
to unwind together.
Guests can book into one of the 14 suites and stay
spa-centered for their entire visit.
Take a dip in the outdoor pool, or turn on the
current and swim laps in the indoor, saltwater option.
Unwind from the workout with a soothing soak
in the hot tub or a muscle-relaxing stop in the steam
room or sauna.
The resort's wine theme is blended into the spa
as well. Napa Valley organics such as grape seeds
mixed in scented oils are used in the signature
Harvest Crush treatment, which includes a full-body
exfoliation, a rain shower and an application of
lavender rose lotion.
Couples can opt for a four-hour treatment,
followed by lunch served with Château Élan Brut
Reserve in their own suite.
" This is our most deluxe couples experience, "
says Kim Cole, the resort's spa director. " The guests
choose their lunch selections when they arrive, and
it is served in the suite. And all services are done
with our signature Napa Valley organic products in
cabernet/passion fruit scent. "

With its individual cottages and a rustic lodge, the property is a respite
in itself, but the renovated spa takes guests a step beyond. Be pampered
with massage, body and facial treatments that incorporate ingredients from
the resort's extensive gardens.
The Bamboo Massage, for example, uses lavender, mint and warmed
bamboo sticks to loosen tight muscles. Try a Blueberry Bliss body treatment,
which uses a blueberry and soy foam to refresh skin all over.
The spa facility features separate men's and women's relaxation zones
with steam rooms, saunas and showers. Resort guests can extend their spa
experience at the adjacent fitness center and outdoor pool.

Spas in the post-pandemic world
During the height of the COVID-19 crisis, many spas ceased
offering services. Many gradually have begun the reopening process,
with varying degrees of social distancing, mask requirements and
staggered appointments.
Cleanliness is always a major component of any spa visit, and in
the post-COVID era, it's even more important. While professional spas are
paying significant attention to disinfecting and sanitation protocols, it's
a good idea to ask what precautions are being taken before you visit.
Many spas still are operating with reduced hours, so it's also important
to book an appointment well ahead to be sure of snagging a spot.
" Our busiest times for services are the weekends, which typically
book two weeks in advance, " says Michael Shirley, director of the Equani
spa at Brasstown Valley Resort in Young Harris.
While booking, be sure to confirm what COVID requirements the spa
might have, such as those regarding wearing masks, and find out if any
amenities, such as saunas or hot tubs, are off-limits.
With a bit of preparation, a spa visit can be a welcome return to
luxurious pampering.
