eorgia's 41 electric membership cooperatives (EMCs)
offer their employees job stability, great benefits and
growth opportunities. And while those are nice perks, a major
attraction is the family feel of co-op culture.
" It is very different from corporate America, " says Rita
Wilson, human resources manager for GreyStone Power Corp.

Sarah Gunn agrees. As a member solutions representative
at Flint Energies in Reynolds, Gunn likes the company's
community-service opportunities and its support
of local charities through Operation Round Up, a program
in which members round up their bills to the next dollar-an
average of $8 per member per year-to provide monetary
assistance to local nonprofit organizations.
" The other thing I enjoy most is the family atmosphere

and the way employees truly look out for each other and try
and help each other whenever possible, " says Gunn, a co-op
employee since 2016.
That family culture and commitment to community could
pay off big, especially as EMCs brace for a slew of retirements in
the next few years.

providing exceptional service to the people they serve,
rather than making profits, says Lindsay Bridges, vice
president of communications and member services at
Georgia EMC, the Tucker-based trade association for the
state's electric co-ops.
" EMCs are well-known for supporting their local communities
beyond just providing power, " Bridges says.
