company, Shannon Scott, helped plan the 2002
conference that brought representatives of the
American Institute of Parapsychology and Duke
University in Durham, N.C., to the city.
Scott accepted the award on Savannah's behalf,
which led to the creation of the company's America's
Most Haunted City Tour.
Angela Lynn started working with the company
in 2009 and took the reins as president and CEO in
2011. After a successful corporate career with paint
manufacturer Sherwin-Williams, Lynn says " it's kind
of ironic " that she now operates a business that tells
ghost stories.
" Growing up ... what we did for entertainment
was tell ghost stories, " she says.
Savannah is filled with historic properties touting
ghost sightings and close personal encounters
with the other side.
" We have a lot of people coming here planning
their vacations around [the tours], " Lynn says, which
is why the company values consistency. " I try my
best to have the very best guides with professional
experience. "
The company's stories emerged from historical
research, news articles and records, and interviews
with locals.
" We learn something new almost every day, "
Lynn says.
Lynn believes storytelling keeps history alive.
" If you keep telling [the deceased's] story,
they're never really gone, " she says.
She shares the example of Savannah resident
Dr. Eugene Corson, who was a pioneer in the use of
X-ray technology for medical purposes.
" He would stick his hand underneath the X-ray,
and when his hand glowed, he knew it was ready, "
Lynn says.
Corson lost some of his fingers as a result
of radiation exposure. To this day, people spot
his ghost-playing the harp, with a few fingers
missing-at the Dean Owens House.
The company's two ghost tours are the Sixth
Sense Savannah Ghost Tour, which covers the
southern part of Savannah's historic district, and the
America's Most Haunted City Tour, which covers the
northern part of the historic district. 6th Sense World
also offers tours of Bonaventure Cemetery in nearby
Thunderbolt. The tours are walking tours and last
between 90 minutes and two hours.
6th Sense World operates year-round. Advance
reservations are required.
