Ben Wynne, a history professor at the
University of North Georgia in Gainesville, has
published a new book about the history of
music in Macon: " Something in the Water:
A History of Music in Macon, Georgia,
1823-1980. " In its 400 pages, you'll learn
how Richard Wayne Penniman (aka Little
Richard) worked at the Trailways Bus Station
and, Wynne says, it could be argued that
Little Richard's famous song " Tutti Frutti "
(1955) launched rock 'n' roll. Read how
James Brown got roped into impersonating
Little Richard after the latter had to
leave town in a rush and couldn't meet
contractual obligations. Wynne also
includes some tall tales, while noting that
they are probably fi ction. " But they're fun, " he
says. This book will intrigue fans of Georgia culture and music.
