Manhattan Quilters Guild works showcased
at Carrollton museum
A traveling exhibit of nearly 20 quilts will be on display at Carrollton's
Southeastern Quilt and Textile Museum from Jan. 13 through March 26.
Created by members of the New York-based Manhattan Quilters Guild, the
exhibition is in the midst of a three-year national tour.
Measuring 40 inches by 40 inches each, the quilts celebrate the guild's
40th anniversary in a show called 40x40@40: New Work by the Manhattan
Quilters Guild.
" Having such a prestigious collection of quilts
helps us continue to attract international visitors to our
museum, " says JoAnna Browning, director of operations
for the museum. " Since our founding 10 years ago, our
visitors have come from all over the world, including
Australia and New Zealand. As the only regional quilt
museum in the Southeast, we are an important part of
textile history and culture. "
The exhibit also features the Manhattan
Quilters Guild's Mask Momentum, a collection of
mixed-media and fabric masks.
" After all this time of the pandemic, we
thought that people would be tired of masks, but
these innovative designs are very imaginative, "
Browning says. " Quilters are so very creative, and it
is refreshing to see where their talents have taken
them regarding something so commonplace as
masks. "
