eorgia is referred to as the Peach State, but
the agricultural appeal extends far beyond
its namesake crop.
To showcase the variety of farms, the Maconbased
Georgia Farm Bureau created an annual
Farm Passport, a guide that encourages visitors to
discover Georgia, support local farms and
experience fresh food. This year's 93 featured
farms include U-picks, wineries, dairies and
lavender farms. The 2022 Farm Passport
program kicks off March 12.
As visitors travel and get their passports
stamped at each location in the pamphlet, they
earn rewards at the end of the year, ranging
from a limited-edition T-shirt to a farm-totable
dinner and tour. Those who visit all of the
featured farms in a single year and get their passports stamped at each
will receive special traveler jackets.
Farmers enjoy the program and appreciate what it represents.
" We have been a Georgia Farm Bureau-certified market for a very long time, "
says Lee Dickey, an owner of Musella-based Dickey Farms and longtime passport
participant. " And we've been doing the passport probably since they started that, too.
Basically, anything they roll out, we're [participating in it]. "
Visitors get excited to see where their food and other local goods originate.

Passport has opened the door
to awesome hidden gems. "

together, the fresh produce and
the scenery than it ever is
about the prizes, " Georgia
Farm Bureau's Certified Farm

Henry says. " It encourages
family time together and
encourages exploring the state
to see what Georgia has. "
Passports will be available
Visitors enjoy a scenic tractor ride at Mercier Orchards in
Blue Ridge. The orchard hosts U-pick events and has an
on-site bakery, market and winery.
