Albany Museum of Art permanent collection back on display
It's back after five years. The permanent collection has returned
to the Albany Museum of Art for a three-month Homecoming
Exhibition through Aug. 13. It's showcasing more than 150 works that
had been in storage since 2017, when a powerful storm ripped the
roof off the museum and threatened its future.
" Our permanent collection is the heartbeat of our museum, and
its return is cause to celebrate, " says Andrew J. Wulf, executive director
of the museum. " Although the storm was devastating, no artwork was
destroyed. We are so grateful to have it back and on display. "
Artwork removed the day after the storm was either stored at
the High Museum of Art in Atlanta or sent for restoration to the
Conservation Center in Chicago.
Works by Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Edward Henry Potthast
and others-as well as art objects from Liberia, Nigeria and
Cameroon-fill all the museum's galleries.
" It's like welcoming home old friends, " says Katie Dillard, director
of curatorial affairs. " You know, like the ones you haven't seen in years. "
