2022 Walter Harrison Scholarship recipients announced
F
ourteen Georgia students have been named
recipients of the 2022 Walter Harrison
Scholarship.
Each of these students will receive a $1,000
scholarship:
* Stephanie Barajas of Fort Valley, member of Flint
Energies in Reynolds, who intends to attend the
University of Georgia (UGA) in Athens
* Jadie Burrell of Parrott, member of Sumter Electric
Membership Corp. (EMC) in Americus, who intends to
attend UGA
* Makenzie Clark of Jefferson, member of Jackson EMC in
Jefferson, who attends Lawrenceville-based Gwinnett
Technical College
* Samuel Esowhode of Lawrenceville, member of Jackson
EMC, who attends Statesboro-based Georgia Southern
University and intends to transfer to the Georgia Institute
of Technology (Georgia Tech) in Atlanta
* Kathleen (Kate) Good of Waycross, member of Okefenoke
Rural EMC in Nahunta, who intends to attend UGA
* John Scott Griner of Bishop, member of Walton EMC in
Monroe, who intends to attend UGA
* Grace Catherine Hood of Midville, member of Excelsior
EMC in Metter, who intends to attend UGA
* Nick Jonassen of Newnan, member of Coweta-Fayette EMC
in Palmetto, who intends to attend Carrollton-based
University of West Georgia
* Emily Lariscy of Sylvania, member of Planters EMC in
Millen, who intends to attend Georgia Tech
* Joel Mann of Ocilla, member of Irwin EMC in Ocilla,
who intends to attend Tifton-based Abraham Baldwin
Agricultural College (ABAC)
* Madeline McLean of Brunswick, member of Okefenoke
Rural EMC, who intends to attend Georgia Tech
* Christian Nipper of Social Circle, member of Snapping
Shoals EMC in Covington, who intends to attend Maconbased
Mercer University
* Mary Pierce of Loganville, member of Walton EMC, who
intends to attend Dahlonega-based University of North
Georgia
* James Major Stanford of Eatonton, member of Tri-County
EMC in Gray, who intends to attend ABAC
This year the scholarship had 78 applicants. With the
addition of this year's 14 winners, the scholarship fund
will have distributed $250,500 to 261 scholarship winners
since the fund was established in 1985 and money began
being distributed in 1987.
Scholarship funds come from money raised via a
silent auction at Tucker-based Georgia EMC's annual
meeting each November as well as through honorary
and memorial donations.
