Clint Alderman: a passion for tradition
Georgia's Folk Pottery Museum of Northeast Georgia in
Sautee Nacoochee is showcasing the pottery of Clint Alderman,
who lives in Demorest in northeast Georgia. Clint
Alderman: A Modern Folk Potter runs through May 1.
" I started making pottery in 1996 at the age of 15, "
Alderman says. " I use a wood-fired kiln and make all of
my glazes with wood ashes and ground glass. I make
face jugs and sculptural forms that blend history and
tradition with function and art. I use locally dug clay
from northeast Georgia, and I make each piece by
hand on a foot-powered treadle wheel. "
Visitors can learn about the history of Georgia
pottery through items from the museum's permanent
collection on display as well as the evolution of
Alderman's work.
" His ability to combine his passion for tradition with a
virtuosity in detailed sculpture produces a type of folk pottery
unlike the majority of the museum's permanent collection, " Folk
Pottery Museum Director Meghan Gerig says.
