Golf tournament
raises $150,000
for Sua Sponte
Foundation

he Tucker-based Family of Companies-
Oglethorpe Power Corp., Georgia
Transmission Corp., Georgia System
Operations Corp. and Georgia Electric Membership
Corp. (EMC)-on Nov. 11 announced a donation
of $150,000 to the Sua Sponte Foundation, a
volunteer nonprofit organization that provides
rapid assistance to the Rangers and families of the
1st Ranger Battalion, part of the U.S. Army's elite
75th Ranger Regiment based in Savannah.
The funds will go toward the construction of
the 1st Ranger Battalion Heritage Center, a meeting
and recreation facility for Rangers, at the Hunter
Army Air Base in Savannah. The donation came from
money raised at the 12th annual Heroes Invitational
Golf Tournament held on Oct. 3 at the Georgia Club
in Statham.
The Sua Sponte Foundation assists Rangers and
their families in times of crisis. The nonprofit organization
hosts and sponsors events to increase the
Rangers' morale and cohesiveness, helps to renovate
wounded Rangers' homes, sends care packages to
deployed troops, provides financial aid for medical
expenses, offers job-search assistance, helps Gold
Star families who have lost a loved one in military
service and maintains memorial grounds dedicated
to fallen warriors of the 1st Ranger Battalion.

We've got spirit: Georgia's
electric membership
cooperatives (EMCs) are the
official energy provider of
the Georgia High School
Association (GHSA), and
volunteers from several EMCs
and Tucker-based Georgia EMC
were on hand at the 2022 GHSA
State Football Championships
held Dec. 8-10 at Center Parc
Stadium in Atlanta. Hosting hospitality suites and passing out foam spirit fingers
to fans before each game were representatives of Altamaha EMC (based in Lyons),
Central Georgia EMC (Jackson), Flint Energies (Reynolds), Jackson EMC (Jefferson),
Jefferson Energy Cooperative (Wrens), Irwin EMC (Ocilla), Mitchell EMC (Camilla),
Southern Rivers Energy (Barnesville) and Sumter EMC (Americus).
Power rankings: Georgia electric cooperatives garnered the top four spots and the
11th spot in the ranking of 25 electric cooperatives in the nation whose members
were surveyed in the 2022 J.D. Power residential customer-satisfaction survey.
Topping the list was Sawnee EMC (based in Cumming), followed by Jackson EMC,
GreyStone Power Corp. (Hiram) and Cobb EMC (Marietta). Walton EMC (Monroe)
came in 11th. Members were surveyed between January and November 2022
about their satisfaction with their electricity provider.
Toys for children: Employees of Georgia
EMC coordinated a toy and gift drive for
Children's Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA) in
December as the charitable project in
conjunction with Georgia EMC's holiday
lunch. Employees were encouraged to bring
new, unwrapped gifts for children, ranging
from infants to teens, who would spend
Christmas in one of CHOA's three metro
Atlanta hospitals: Egleston, Scottish Rite and
Hughes Spalding. Employees donated more
than 100 gifts and gift cards at an estimated
value of more than $2,000.
Light sources: The Relevant Word Church in Girard donated $5,000 to Millenbased
Planters EMC for its Lights for the Holidays campaign. Planters EMC used
the funds to make anonymous payments on 29 member accounts that were in
jeopardy of being disconnected for nonpayment in Burke and Screven counties.
